A 70-ounce natural gold nugget to go under the hammer

You might have come across several uncut and raw precious stones at auctions, but have you ever heard about gold nuggets begin auctioned off? Well as Heritage Auctions brings forth a new Fine Minerals category. Highlighting the auction is a large Gold in Quartz nugget weighing well over 70 ounces (about 2 kg), found at the base of Colorado River canyon, Arizona. Uncovered in the winter of 1989 by amateur gold hunter Bud Guthrie, the nugget is estimated to fetch over $300,000 under the hammer.
