Cognac Croizet sets the world record as most expensive cognac sold at auction

To say the Chinese have a taste for finer things would be an understatement. At a recent auction in Shanghai, an 1858 bottle of cognac sold for 1 million Yuan ($156,740). The Cognac Croizet has a fascinating history. The spirit was named Cuvée Léonie, who was the daughter of the house’s founder Léon Croizet. It was presented as her wedding dowry in 1892. The auction, which took place in the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Hong Kong, was bought by one Maggie Vong. In her statement, she expressed, “she would save it for a special occasion.” With the growing amount of nouveau riche in China, the demand for cognac has been rising. Proceeds from this auction were donated to a charity in Shanghai.
