Cowardly Lion Costume from The Wizard of Oz is up for auction

If you always wanted to own a piece of Hollywood history and are a big fan of “The Wizard of Oz,” then you are in luck. Check out the auction held by Profiles in History on December 16th. They will be offering the original Cowardly Lion costume for sale. The costume was made from the real hide of Lion and was preserved with top-most care. In the movie, you find actor Bert Lahr who played the Cowardly Lion character wear it in some of the most amazing and magical scenes. His character also wears it when he first meets Dorothy. Since the original make-up of the Cowardly Lion is no more, the actor’s son Herbert Lahr, who resembles his dad, was used to make a mold of his face. The Cowardly Lion costume is expected to fetch anywhere between $2,000,000 to $3,000,000.

The Profiles in History’s “Icons of Hollywood” will be a two-day event. It will be held at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. Other memorabilia include the DeLorean from Back to the Future III, Marilyn Monroe’s wedding ring, her nude painting by Earl Moran, and Bela Lugosi’s cape from the movie Dracula.
