Tranquility by artist Damien Hirst fetches $1.71 million at auction

I have heard of beginners luck and British artist Damien Hirst is the latest proof of this theory. The artist’s work was for the first time auctioned in Hong Kong and it became the most expensive work by Damien Hirst ever sold at auction in Asia. It was also the first time that a work from his “Butterfly Series” had appeared at auction in Asia. Seoul Auction held it’s Modern and Contemporary Art sale where Damien Hirst’s celebrated Butterfly Series achieved HK$13.37 million ($1.71 million)! The beautiful work, Tranquility was sold to an Asian collector who won the bid over the telephone. Butterflies are a symbol of eternity and resurrection in many cultures and David Hirst uses these creatures to present his ideas of life and death through art. The artist has applied dead butterflies on the vast canvas making Tranquility look like a kaleidoscope. The dead butterflies immortalized in the art work symbolize the artists view that neither religion nor science, but only art remains perpetual.
