Saks reaches out to women undergoing cancer, to look good and feel better

Fashion store chain Saks Fifth Avenue is continuing its support to women with cancer, this time by hosting a ‘Look Good Feel Better’ event across the United States. The event offers women undergoing chemotherapy and other cancer treatments free makeup consultations and beauty sessions, targeted to managing appearance-related side effects of cancer, leaving them feeling beautiful all over again.

Look Good Feel Better will take place at more than 2,500 locations around the United States, including a number of Saks Fifth Avenue stores. The store announced that over 1 million cosmetics products will be donated by brands at a total value of $7 million.

The side effects of chemotherapy and medication often result in loss of hair, pigmentation and while appearances may not matter, these scars leave women feeling undesirable and depressed in today’s glamorous society. Saks will offer these women a chance to feel good about themselves and more importantly offer them a safe and supportive environment to connect with other women undergoing cancer treatment. There will be group and individual workshops run by trained cosmetologists who will guide the women on how to draw on eyebrows or conceal pigmentation. They will also have the opportunity to try on wigs and turbans and will receive a complementary package of makeup to take home.

The department store chain is also in the process of launching its annual charity campaign ‘Key To The Cure’ with help from celebrity and fashion friends. Now in its 17th year, this initiative will see Saks partner with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to raise money for the fight against women’s cancer, with a campaign featuring Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore wearing an exclusive shirt designed by Jason Wu.
