It’s easy to get distracted by Dubai’s sail shaped hotels, climate controlled beaches and indoor canals, to miss some of the subtler design taking place in the city. Amongst all the pomp and outrageous luxury, will stand out this new library. Book lovers known as Bibliophiles, will soon be able to run through over1.7 million books at the elaborate new Dubai Central Library. Being built on the banks of Al Mamzar Lagoon in Dubai, it is set to open in 2008.
The design is inspired by the shape of a Turkish lectern. The architects, who won the design competition, the Stuttgart-based ASP, are putting a conference centre, exhibition spaces, children’s library and bookshop on the ground floor, while above sits the central library area.
