British singer Beth Ditto launches clothing line with Gaultier’s support

It is music to the eyes. Beth Ditto and Jean Paul Gaultier have joined hands to promote several messages. The primary being, the singer’s self-titled plus-size clothing line… expected to be unveiled in February. However, the news is more colourful because the sneak preview has already grabbed our attention. Like a Star Wars fan anticipation; in a fashion sense. The bold singer has launched the teaser by modelling in a corset tee shirt created by Gaultier. The $165 tee is emblazoned with the bullet bra corset which Gaultier designed for Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition tour.

There is a lace up detailing at the back which can transform the tee shirt into a dress. The tee can be worn with leggings. It comes in 1X and 2X sizes. The rest of the collection is is supposedly going to highlight Ditto’s love of vintage and will have ‘silks, custom prints, embroidery and Beth’s first hand understanding of fit’. The range will have sizes up to 30. This kind of leap into the deep end of the fashion pool by such an established designer shows that the winds of change are finally here. It is only a matter of time until the rest join the bandwagon. Another inspiring fact of this news is that a part of the proceeds from the sale of the tee shirts will go to Girls Rock Camp Foundation. Tease or cynicism cannot go close to such initiatives. Good girl, Ditto.
