Chelsea picks Fernando Torres for £50 million making him the third most expensive football player

After making it to the most expensive players playing the 2010 FIFA World Cup list, its time for Fernando Torres to listen to the sweet sound of cash registers ringing as he became the third most expensive player in football history as he moved in with Team Chelsea for a reportedly staggering £50 million ($80.35 million) from his earlier Team Liverpool under a 5.5-year contract.

Despite a disappointing world cup show in 2010, Torres remains one of the world’s most wanted players. He led Spain to a famous European Championship final victory over Germany in 2008. As his replacement, Liverpool reportedly signed Luis Suarez from Ajax for 26.5 million euros ($36.37 million) and Andy Carroll from Newcastle for £35 million ($56.23 million).
