A 120 year old beetle wing emerald dress restored at $80,500

If the royal wedding wasn’t all of elegance and stupor, this would have been news we could tie with Kate Middleton’s choice of dress for her fairy tale marriage to Prince Williams. A Victorian dress once worn by the ‘Queen of the Theatre’ Ellen Terry and made from 1,000 beetle wings has been restored at £50,000 ($80,530). It is emerald and sea green and was worn by the actress for her role as Lady Macbeth at London’s Lyceum Theatre in 1888. It will now be displayed at Smallhythe Place, Kent. The work began two years ago and following a successful fund-raising campaign was completed in 1,300 hours.
