Amazon.com, popularly known for discounted books and households items, is now looking forward to expand its wings to other sections as well. And this upcoming section is mostly expected to be likable by many- the fashion segment. The buzz is that, online retailer Amazon could be on course to open its own haute couture section in association with other big luxurious fashion brands. Consequently while Amazon gears itself to be the online fashion retailer as well, big fashion brands, however are in dilemma whether to offer their products on Amazon will turn out to be a lucrative option for them or its move into clothing might turn out to be threat to their own respective stature.
“Amazon will never sell Louis Vuitton, because we are the only ones that sell it,” said Yves Carvelle- Louis Vuitton chief executive. He further added, “This is a model of direct control thay we pioneered, and I think long term it is the direction that most luxury ecommerce will take.”
Well it’s not just Louis Vuitton who is facing this dilemma, as sailing in the same boat are other brands too. “It would be naïve to say we would absolutely never do anything ever with a company like Amazon. That said we are increasingly aware of the importance of brand identity online and maintaining it at the highest levels,” said chief executive of Alexander McQueen Jonathan Akeroyd.
Over the past decade, the transformation from retail shops to e-commerce sites has been transcendental, yet it would be difficult to say that people would willing to shop luxury fashion brands on a site where every small household item is sold.
Nevertheless, it would be too early to say, whether this move will prove to be lucrative option for luxurious fashion brands or not? But one thing is for sure that this up-gradation into haute-couture will definitely please most of Amazon users who will be able to shop their favorite stuff at one place itself.
