Are you up-to-date with the latest sunglasses trends?

Don’t worry, you will be soon.
Is it hard to keep on top of all the happenings in the fast-paced world of fashion trends? In a way… yes it is. But that’s only if you have a cursory outlook to it all. Anyone can be as fashionable as a Kardashian if you really put your mind to it, so to give you the head start you may or may not need, here’s a quick guide to what’s cool in sunglasses right now.

Vintage cat eye
Everyone likely knows cat eye glasses from the famous brand Oliver Goldsmith, but I’ll have you know that there are equally classy styles from other brands as well. Ray-Ban’s ‘Acetate Mirrored’ might be a bit sci-fi for some, but you’ll be a talking point in any case if you can pull them off. Versace probably have the most traditional cat eye sunglasses, but Tom Ford also stock some designs that are somewhere between daring and contemporary. This style rarely goes out of fashion, but is seeing a particularly big resurgence in 2018.

Heart-shaped
True, these won’t be your first-choice sunglasses when it’s your average day out simply doing some shopping or on the way to the office, but heart-shaped sunglasses will undoubtedly be your “special occasion” option. These are festival sunglasses – think SXSW or Coachella style – where your outfit will need to take that big leap from ‘great’ to ‘OMG that looks amazing!’ Yves Saint-Laurent do a stylish pair called the ‘Loulou’, but although you’ll most likely find them in either black or ivory shades on their official website, we actually spotted some deep red and even gold frames from the folks at Edel Optics.

90s-inspired tiny glasses
There’s been a lot of discussion about just how tiny sunglasses came to be, but whether you like it or not, this style is trending big time. Some think Kanye West has a lot to do with the trend, as he apparently told his wife, Kim Kardashian, that she should stop wearing big glasses immediately, and that “it’s all about tiny little glasses now.” Admittedly, these are perhaps the hardest to rock from all the choices in the list, but if you’ve got the outfit to go with them, then these will be the pièce de résistance. The frames are ranging from anywhere to hot pink to understated brown all the way to classic ivory, so there really is a style for everyone… depending if you like the style. Gigi Hadid teamed up with Vogue to release her own sunglasses collection, and boy, we have to say her 90’s-inspired tiny sunglasses take the cake.

Embellishments
Likely to be another “special occasion” pair of sunglasses, embellished sunglasses are bold, larger-than-life, and big on maximizing the frames as much as possible. We’re talking floral patterns, glitter, rhinestones, and even pearls in some cases – anything that makes your frames look as diverse as possible. There is a growing trend of DIY when it comes to embellished sunglasses, but Stella McCartney’s chain idea looks awesome, if you don’t have the time or desire to do anything yourself.
