Out now: Ferragamo Fiamma an ultra-sophisticated handbag collection inspired by family legacy

When that beautiful Frédéric Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 began to play, we knew the film held something special. And sure, there it was, a masterpiece of leather craft- Fiamma, Salvatore Ferragamo’s new handbag collection. Creative Director Massimiliano Giornetti has reportedly drawn inspiration from the different female generations of the Ferragamo family and their enduring influence on the House today. Explored alongside a curated group of internationally relevant women in a lovely short, the creations are nothing short of art themselves.

The film vignettes and portraits showcase the new Fiamma handbag collection, that incorporates Ferragamo signatures – innovative design, interesting combinations of exotic materials, iconic silk print linings from the 1970’s, novelty hardware stemming from the brand’s origins. But it traces these very hardware designs to today for an exhibit of the House’s classic heritage alongside new playful styles of the modern age. Take the semi-circular top handle, for instance. Its cheeky style designed in a range of five variant sizes, marries a functional pocket fastened with a lock that recalls the Gancio, the eternal symbol of Ferragamo’s history and craftsmanship.

A series of luxe details like top stitched ribbed handles, double zip hardware closure, removable adjustable shoulder strap and elegant satin lining follow suit. Speaking of following, Ferragamo will also premiere a special collection of miniature styles, a range of limited edition variants that highlight precious mixed materials including fringe embroidered nappa, two-tone fox fur hand stitched onto aged snakeskin, tweed with degrade Swarovski crystals held by lizard skin handles, and calfskin with opulent stingray details. Named after Salvatore’s late daughter Fiamma Ferragamo, the house’s leather accessories and shoe designer for almost 40 years, the current color palette boasts autumnal browns – Cocoa, Black, Moss and Rosewood, as well as seasonal shades such as Plum, Atlantic, Grape, and the sultry New Bisque.
