Fashion houses have often had their way with producing non-traditional and unexpected items for sale. From the LV rulers , pencils and yoyos to the Chanel boomerangs and tennis balls, we’ve seen and probably even owned some of these unexpected beauties. But, for us, it’s the recently uncovered Gucci Handcuffs that take the cake as the most unconventional item to come up for sale in last few years.
The now retailing vintage Gucci Handcuffs were designed by Tom Ford in the year 1998 and are one of the many proactive versions created by him for the brand. As legend has it, they were produced at the same time Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison for hiring a hitman to kill her husband, Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci. It is believed that the handcuffs were specially designed to send out a strong message for the fashion world’s undeterred sprit and presence.
Apart from being displayed at Gucci’s flagship Florence store, the iconic handcuffs have also been part of artist Sylvie Fleury’s creations and have been exhibited at the official Museo Gucci in Florence until recently. Since a Tom Ford piece with a ridiculous amount of history is sure to cost a bomb, the handcuffs are currently retailing at Grailed for a bank busting price of $65,000. To make deal better, they will come along with a solid silver box and the original dust bag. Care to purchase this historical extravaganza?
