Glass perfume bottle chess set is a collector’s object

Mary Chess was a well-known perfumer of the 1930’s who concocted natural fragrances at her company established in NYC. Here’s a special and rare perfume bottle chess set by Mary Chess that includes all pieces; kings and queens with crown, bishops with mitres, knights with horses’ heads, rooks with battlements, pawns with finials, all in a velveteen covered presentation case. The original embossed cardboard box has a drawer beneath, all of which is sheathed with a silk-lined lid. The set also includes the letters exchanged between The Queen’s Lady-in-waiting, Olivia Mulholland to Mary Chess Ltd; an associated typed letter from The Queen Mother’s Comptroller, Sir Alastair Aird, thanking Mary Chess Ltd for the “magnificent chess set”.
