In 2011 when H&M rolled out its Versace collection, hordes of shoppers spent the night queuing on the pavements outside the Swedish fast fashion label and the entire collection was sold within the first 30 minutes at many of its stores. The fact that the retail giant brings red carpet style onto the shelves and rails of the high street for the masses makes each of its designer collaboration a highly anticipated event. This year the fast fashion label has announced Alexander Wang as its guest designer.
During an event at the Coachella Music Festival last weekend, the retailer broke the news of their partnership with the New York-based fashion designer. It also went viral after the designer posted a video on Instagram featuring a basketball scoreboard with a digital countdown to the “Wang X HM” and the numbers “11″ and “06,” indicating that the resulting collection will launch in stores on November 6th.
This is the first time that an American designer has teamed up with H&M. The Alexander Wang X H&M collection will feature apparel and accessories for both men and women. “Alexander Wang is one of the most important voices in fashion today. He understands exactly what people want to wear and does it with an energy and passion that’s infectious. It feels incredible to be collaborating with him this year,” said Margareta van den Bosch, H&M’s creative advisor.
Some of the industry’s biggest names – from Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson, Lanvin and Marni have also designed for the high-street brand.
The Alexander Wang for H&M collection will be available across 250 H&M stores worldwide and online on November 6, 2014.
