Get ready for the next generation in luggage, the suitcase of the future, the ‘never-loose-your-luggage-again’ item that tech and travel buffs will most assuredly be salivating for; enter the Space Case 1. This is the revolution in luggage we’ve been waiting for (I think…). Forget about those electronic tags with RFID chips and what not, the Space Case is an all in one type accessory that has features to spare.
Let’s start with security – employing a biometric scanner, the Space Case 1 will only open after it’s scanned your fingerprints. In case it’s required to be unlocked remotely, you can use a smartphone app. The app also features a GPS tracking system in case your luggage ends up someplace other than where you are. Proximity sensors are also onboard so your bag doesn’t just wander off without you knowing. It’s more of an anti-theft feature of course.
The tech doesn’t quite stop there; among the variety of sensors are those that are built into the wheels that will indicate the weight of the bag ensuring you never have to pay that extra-weight fee when you’re shopping goes a little over the top. A 12,000 mAh power bank (removable) is built into the Space Case carry-on edition as an added bonus to help you charge your devices if your smartphone, tablet, laptop etc. is running low. There are multiple USB ports provided for this. The suitcases even comes with Bluetooth and a built in speaker so you can have handsfree conversations when required or even listen to music should the need arise.
For the frequent traveler, the Space Case 1 suitcases are also connected to the Planet Travel smartphone application that acts as a virtual concierge for check-ins at the airport, hotel bookings, car rentals etc. Some of the more mundane specifications include a lightweight polycarbonate shell which is available in a variety of color options to suite your style; they range from basic colors to some very arty designs.
The Space Case 1 luggage will be available in two types – Carry on and Check-in. While quite a few of the sets are already sold out, at the time of writing this artcile, the Limited Edition Early Bird special featuring a Raw Carbon Fiber textured body is available for $700 (retail) for the carry-on and $800 for the check-in. if you’re interested in backing the project on Kickstarter you can get them for as low as $329 and $379 respectively. You can also choose to upgrade the battery pack from 12,000 mAh to 15,000 mAh for $34. Custom editions add a little more of a premium feel to the luggage and go as high as $9000 for the White with 18K Gold Trim edition.
