Louis Vuitton calls upon the likes of Christian Louboutin and Karl Lagerfeld for its 160th Anniversary Collection

Louis Vuitton is turning 160 this October and guess how the chic folks up at the maison have decided to celebrate? Why of course, by gathering six creatives for an exceptional capsule collection! Now that I have your attention, let’s talk names and merch. Contributing to the anniversary collection are photographer Cindy Sherman, architect Frank Gehry and designers Marc Newson, Christian Louboutin, Rei Kawakubo and Karl Lagerfeld.

“We have assembled an amazing group of talents, geniuses, I would say. Each one is among the best in his or her field,” expresses Delphine Arnault, Louis Vuitton’s executive vice president. Each will lend their interpretation of the signature LV monogram for a series of luggage items and purses, which are slated to come out mid-October (and likely go out before we can say LV). “The monogram is at the center of our house, so we celebrate it every day. But we thought this project was really special because the personalities we chose are fascinating and diverse.”

So much so that the collaborative project has been christened The Icon and the Iconoclasts. And its come at a good time, not long after the French label’s first Cruise Collection! After all, who doesn’t want “iconic” purses to match with what could best be called Nicolas Ghesquière’s eccentric yet wearable creations? “It’s a really fun project. It’s done with a lot of humor,” concludes Arnault. Now if only we could find the same humor in its price tags, which will read anything between $2,700 and $5,500.
