This is called making a statement. Loud, bold, and ready to go. Stella McCartney and Adidas has unveiled the new kit for Team GB and Paralympics GB for the 2016 Olympics to be held at Rio de Janeiro. New this year will be – well, everything. To start with, a coast of arms – McCartney’s idea, and developed by the College of Arms – the official repository of the coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families. The kit includes apparel that is more fashion than facilitation. One look at these stars and the sport could be the last thing on an audience’s mind. The smallest item in the kit, swimming trunks, is so small that you might get the urge to throw a pair of suspenders to the athlete lest the elasticity of the material snaps the thing off. wardrobe malfunction in a global sport arena is just the pits. Why must fashion always have to poke its arrogant nose into everything? Really? It is unfathomable what she may have had in mind designing this kit. The unitard looks retarded, to be honest. The cyclist looks like she is wearing a flattened version of a two-wheeler on her body. Apparently, McCartney felt that a rugby player should be wearing loose clothes as it would not give the opponent a chance to pull them and thereby distract them. so, that is also tight.
The kit is also hoped to encourage team spirit. Maybe they could walk together, all huddled up, to make sure they remain covered up in case one of those malfunctions happen. Perhaps, the designer just wanted to keep to the theme of the Brazilian culture and spirit.
