Cuba is certainly not the first place you think of when someone mentions fashion, but it might soon be. The island country played host to Chanel’s 2016/17 Cruise collection fashion show with the Prado promenade serving as the runway for models clad in outfits inspired by the Cuban life and culture.
With international relations between Cuba and the USA on the mend, Karl Largerfeld’s theatrical runway show feels perfectly timed. Models walked the ramp in colorful outfits sporting Cadillac car and palm tree prints.
The collection was filled with wide legged pants, statement jackets, sheer dresses and an array of fabrics and embellishments in rainbow hues. Some of the standout accessories included two tone shoes, panama hats and cigar inspired clutches.
Tilda Swinton, Gisele Bündchen, Vanessa Paradis and Vin Diesel were in attendance at this historic show that was staged at Paseo del Prado, a boulevard designed by French landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier in 1772.
This is hardly the first time that Chanel has chosen a distant destination to host their fashion show, but it might very well be the most memorable.
