Cool kicks are the last word in fashion right now. With sports brands like Nike and Puma queuing up to create luxury sneakers, it was only a brand before designers cashed in too. Tom Ford’s new line of sneakers offers a refreshing take on the sneaker trend for men. Devoid of flashy colors and attention grabbing graphics, the sneakers are as alluring and sophisticated as the designer himself.
The line consists of 12 styles that come in high and low top styles and boast a variety of colors and materials. The luxe materials used include supple leather and soft velvet and colors range from deep blood reds to classic browns and blacks. Though sneaker savvy style icons like Kanye West and Jay-Z might give these low profile kicks a miss, we’d like to imagine them as the new go-to footwear for Justin Timberlake, John Legend and Frank Ocean who would personify the relaxed elegance of these sneakers.
Considering that a small leather wallet from Tom Ford retails for as much as $890, the sneakers priced between $690 and $990 are not that exorbitant, the velvet shoes fall at the lower end of that range while the leather high-tips are the most expensive pair in the collection. The full collection will not be available in stores until the Fall season, but some styles have been made available on the Tom Ford website.
While some are calling these sneakers a snooze-fest, we think a little back-to-basics style is exactly what we need right now. Give us deep colors in luxuriant materials over neon madness any day!
