Tommy Hilfiger launches jackets with solar panels to charge your phone on the go!

Ever found yourself in a situation where you desperately need to call someone only to find that your phone’s battery is dead? We’ve all been there, Cady Crush addictions will do that to you. Power banks are useful, but only if you’re responsible enough to keep it charged the day before. You’re favorite All-American designer Tommy Hilfiger may have brought you the perfect solution.

Hilfiger has partnered with solar company Pvilion to create jackets fitted with solar panels and battery packs allowing you to charge your devices on the go. The jackets come in male and female versions and are limited edition retailing at $599 each. They feature a tartan design and pockets on the front and removable, water resistant, flexible solar panels on the back. These solar panels charge a battery pack in one of the pockets which (when fully charged) can recharge a 1500mAh battery up to 4 times. The battery comes with a double USB port so you can charge two devices at once. The battery itself is removable so if you don’t have the patience (or the pre-requisite sunlight access) to let it charge in the sun, you can remove it from the jacket to charge it externally via USB.

tommy-hilfigers-solar-jackets-1To be honest, these jackets seem like something we would only use if we contestants on some kind of survival show. Or if we were characters in a dystopian YA novel. But that being said, we’re sure plenty of you forget to charge your devices often enough that you see this as Tommy’s personal Christmas gift to you.

If you do decide to go ahead and splurge, the jackets are available at Hilfiger’s e-store. You’ll be happy to know that 50% of the proceeds go to Hilfiger’s Fresh Air Fund for underprivileged children.
