Convergence of devices seems to be winning the debate against those in favor of divergence. This explains just why we’re seeing so many features shared among devices and the keen interest that businesses take in developing new product categories. Most recently, we’ve learned that Bang & Olufsen are partnering with LG to develop new televisions. While this could be translated into a number of possibilities, the brands are calling it a “strategic technology partnership”.
What is plain from this venture is the coming together of LG’s OLED brilliance with B&O’s celebrated design and technology prowess. The first fruit of this renewed alliance is expected to launch by 2017. This is not the first alliance between the brands. The Danish giants partnered with LG earlier this year to develop a module in the LG G5.
B&O haven’t really had the recent past that is as smooth sailing as one would imagine. The company hasn’t made a profit in the last three years and is seeking a buyer for the entire company. Bang & Olufsen could benefit plenty from the OLED solutions from LG as Sony and Samsung seem to stray away from this technology, thanks to the manufacturing challenges it brings with it. This could also be a significant stepping stone for the Danish brand’s share prices that haven’t really seen a lot of sunshine in recent times.
