Jamo is good

By definition, the state-of-the-art is always changing. Nowhere is that more true than with high fidelity loudspeakers. Most conventional loudspeaker designs are basically compromised because they are based on boxes. If ever there was an example of out of the box then Jamo Reference R 909 is it. An original floor standing dipolar design that dispenses with a conventional loudspeaker cabinet, this radical new loudspeaker is set to change the face of the high-end loudspeaker market. Conceived by Jamo’s chief acoustic engineer Henrik Mortensen, R909 isn’t just a really expensive speaker system that pumps out the amazing sound, it’s also a work of art with its slick, slender body.

It has two 15-inch woofers, a 5.5-inch midrange, and a 1-inch tweeter. According to Jamo, this not only eliminates unwanted resonance and colouration but also improves the movement of the drivers, freed from the suspension effect created by the air inside a cabinet. The R 909 is available in red, yellow and black and retails for $ 18,600. Put on some good music, close your eyes and you’ll forget that there’s a loudspeaker there. You’ll be listening to the music, not the hardware.
