A Dubai bakery just created the world’s most expensive cake: a $40,000 masterpiece

As India prepares to celebrate 70 years of Independence, one savvy Dubai based baker has created a cake in honor of the occasion. But this isn’t an ordinary tricolor cake, the cake artist from Dubai’s Broadway Bakery was inspired not only by the landmark anniversary but also by critically acclaimed 2016 Bollywood movie called Dangal starring the superstar Indian actor Aamir Khan. In the film, the actor portrays the Mahavir Singh Phogat, the father of the Olympian wrestling Phogat sisters and all three characters find a place on the cake which is worth a whopping $40,000.

The cake is 100% edible, and took 1,200 man-hours to create. “The client wanted gold to be generously incorporated into the cake and we fulfilled the request by coating each medal with 75 grams of edible gold,” the bakery said on their Facebook page. It has been made using sugar fondant, the bakery’s signature chocolate sponge, ganache, Belgian chocolate, demerara sugar and edible gold.
