Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with this $1,500 Patron cocktail

Louisville’s the Brown Hotel is promising cocktail lovers a treat in celebration of the Kentucky Derby and the upcoming Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo which take place on the same day this year. The hotel’s Lobby Bar will offer discerning guests an Agave Julep – a fabulous fusion cocktail that combines Mexico’s favorite spirit, Tequila, with elements of the classic southern Mint Julep. Each serving of this fusion drink is priced at a whopping $1,500.

The special cocktail was created by Agustín Sosa, director of food & beverage at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky and each ingredient was carefully chosen to reflect his past in Mexico and his present is Louisville. Sosa chose two top shelf spirits for the cocktail, Patrón en Lalique: Serie 2 extra añejo tequila and Old Rip Van Winkle 25 Year Old bourbon, and combined them with two types of mint namely Kentucky Colonel Mint and chocolate mint. The drink also features chocolate bitters, key lime-infused caramelized demerara sugar and a house-made sugar rose garnish.

This luxe cocktail is served in a custom gold-plated and engraved julep cup. You don’t have to feel too guilty about spending a fortune on the Agave Julep because a portion of the sales will benefit the Kentucky Humane Society’s Equine C.A.R.E. program, which improves the lives of horses.
