The Macallan Rare Case Black makes its dark and smoky debut

The latest from the house of The Macallan, the Macallan Rare Case Black has been called ‘dark, smoky, unexpected’ and even ‘out of character’- and this not just for its looks but for elegant wood smoke notes. Made in 100 per cent sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, the new malt carries a subtle flavor of peat smoke combined with dried fruits, nutmeg, ginger and polished oak plus dates, figs and raisins. The single malt whisky is limited to its first production run, making it a collector’s item for whisky connoisseurs. The Rare Case Black also takes a departure from its traditional look with an all-black presentation.

Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno, the architect of the new whiskey said: “Rare Cask Black tells a different story about our spirit and casks, but more than that it tells a story of rarity. Smoky Macallan is rare; there is very little in existence and once used these casks will be no more.

“This is a whisky which is out of character for The Macallan due to the subtle seam of smoke on the palate, but it still bears the essential Macallan DNA.”

The Rare Cask Black is part of The Macallan 1824 Masters Series and is priced at $450, available in selected airports around the world.
