One of the most awaited products to have hit the market recently is Amazon’s Alexa. The user-friendly tech gadget is on almost everyone’s mind, with no exclusion even to the Marriot Hotels. The hospitality giant recently announced its collaboration with the device for facilitating a better in-suite experience for guests through the voice-controlled device- Echo.
‘Alexa for hospitality’, as it is roughly being called will assist in providing services ranging from ordering room service to requesting housekeeping or calling the concierge for dinner recommendations without the guests having to pick up the phone. Commenting on the association, Daniel Rausch, an Amazon vice president said, “Customers tell us they love how easy it is to get information, enjoy entertainment and control connected devices by simply asking Alexa, and we want to offer those experiences everywhere customers want them.”
Marriot Hotels chose Alexa over Apple Inc’s Siri, calling the former a better match for the hospitality industry. The tie-up is also considered as Amazon’s strategic move to further push sales as Echo owners reportedly spend way more ($1,700 a year) than Prime members in a year. The ‘Alexa for Hospitality’ partnership will start this summer at select Marriot properties and will also be made available to other hotel chains by invitation.
