Getting a taste of Champagne and Alsace with Belmond’s new luxury barges

Like the wine tours of France, Belmond is offering wine cruises. The Belmond Afloat has added two new luxury boats called Pivoine (peony) and Lilas (lilac) to its fleet which will start services in 2017. They will cruise along canals and rivers throughout Alsace and Champagne over a six-night itinerary which will feature private visits to family-owned vineyards and breweries and Châteaux.

While Pivoine will cruise between the vineyards of Meaux and Châlons-en-Champagne along the River Marne and Canal Lateral de Marne, Belmond Lilas will pass pine trees and castles on isolated hilltops between Arzviller and Strasbourg. Guests will get a chance to visit Reims and Château Vaux-Le-Vicomte, best known for its manicured gardens, or explore the ‘culinary capital’ Strasbourg.

The boats have inculcated a new guest experience inspired by Biophilia, ‘a design approach that brings the outside world into the interior space’. While Pivoine will have soft, romantic yellows and whites of Peonies and champagne, Lilas is filled with the vibrant, fresh colours of the lilac flower and rustic furnishings.
