Making the most of the island life with the Belmond Napasai

When we hear Koh Samui, we are immediately transported to wild parties on pristine beaches and being spoiled silly at the many luxury resorts that studs the island. There is so much more to see, explore and experience than meets the eye.

One such gem, tucked away in a corner of the northern coasts of Koh Samui is the Belmond Napasai – a hidden paradise.

The property offers everything today’s discerning traveller seeks – privacy, great food, soulful pampering and sunny beaches to soak up sun and sangrias.

With luxurious accommodations and exquisite meals are part of the stay, the resort also offers a range of activities that allows guests to discover the tranquil beauty of Koh Samui and its many treasures.

Here are our top activity picks that will satiate all five senses, using all five elements of nature.

1. Learning to cook your favourite Thai recipes: Who doesn’t like a bowl of steaming fresh green or red curry with a good serving of rice? We were served a treat to both eyes and tastebuds, when the hotel set up a live cooking station in the garden where the head chef taught us how to make traditional Thai salad and curry. It was invigorating to dabble with all the rich spices and flavours, and made us realise the amount of talent and patience that goes behind a dish, that looks so simple.

2. Muay Thai boxing: Yes, boxing. For the gym goers, this will be an exciting and exotic new game to try out. But for those with an aversion to fitness and its regimes, this is still worth a try for the sheer adrenaline rush. Muay Thai boxing is Thailand’s national sport. It is also known as ‘art of 8 limbs’ as it uses all the limbs – arms, legs, elbows, fists and feet. Unique to this sport is that it uses martial arts and kickboxing in equal measures. It is as exhausting as it sounds but it gives a complete sense of accomplishment and so it was well worth the efforts. If you are a fitness fan, you will be happy to discover a new way to stay fit.

3. Island excursions: Thailand’s adventurous spirits lies in its many islands, each one more exciting and intriguing than the other. Belmond Napasai organises island tours where travellers get the chance to enjoy the rich marine diversity of Thailand as well as a host of activities like scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing. Our itinerary involved a tour to Koh Phangan – Thailand’s fifth biggest island, more popularly known for its Full Moon Party which attracts up to 30,000 part animals on New Year’s Eve. We, also got to witness a colourful world underwater at Ao Chaloiklum, a major attraction for snorkeling. From here we were taken to bottle beach. We had lunch packed in picnic baskets by the hotel while enjoying an idyllic view with the sea breeze, white sands and blue waters.
