Waking up to the mesmerizing sight of the Iguaçu Falls in Iguaçu National Park is beyond imagination. The luxurious Belmond Hotel das Cataratas has definitely bagged one of the most fantastic locations in Brazil. Perched on the Brazilian side of the falls, the hotel offers panoramic views.
Location aside, the hotel definitely does have a few features worth mentioning. Expansive grounds surrounding the hotel include tennis courts, tropical gardens and a swimming pool. The look is more refined than trendy I must add. The hotel’s spa – again located by the Iguacu – celebrates the energy of the Amazon with treatments that soothe the mind and invigorate the body.
Of course with a wonderful location like this, the hotel has cashed in on a restaurant facing the falls. Itaipu offers Brazilian fusion dishes with exquisite local flavours. A classic gaucho style barbeque waits by the pool at the Ipe Grill, also serving breakfast to hotel guests.
Personally, we loved the Suite Master Cataratas – it’s like a haven of tranquillity. Considering the hotel is dipped in Portuguese decor, it’s no surprise here that the room entails Portuguese-inspired accents like hand-painted tiles, marble-topped vanities, and hardwood colonial furnishings.
The one-of-a-kind suite is perched upon the second floor of the main building facing the falls. The two bedroom suite entails two bedrooms – one facing the falls while the other one faces the front of the hotel. In addition to the bedrooms, the 95 sq m space features two en-suite bathrooms with a separate living room.
A 4 person hot tub located within simply adds to the luxury of the suite. Dose off in the 600 thread count goose down Trussardi duvet or simply treat yourself to a visual delight from the four balconies. The Granado toiletries from the storied Rio apothecary are meant to be hoarded.
It’s lovely and old-fashioned in the best kind of way.
