Marriott International together with Ian Schrager and The Witkoff Group announced plans for a second Edition hotel in New York City. Scheduled to open in 2017 in the heart of Times Square, the new hotel will open following brand’s debut in Manhattan in 2015, when it opens its first hotel in the landmark Clock Tower building at 5 Madison Avenue. Edition is Marriott International’s first class, full service, luxury lifestyle brand conceived in collaboration with hotelier Ian Schrager.
The second Edition hotel will be located at 701 Seventh Avenue and will be the first hotel of this scale, to open on Times Square in over two decades.The hotel design will feature floor to ceiling windows offering unobstructed views of Manhattan in 70 per cent of its 452 guest rooms. The new hotel will be part of a mixed use development that will also feature 100,000 sq ft of flagship retail, dining, entertainment and event space, as well an 18,000 sq ft HD LED sign – one of the largest in the world.
Last year the company opened The London Edition to rave reviews and was awarded “Best Hotel, 100 or More Rooms” by Travel + Leisure recently. The company will also welcome a Miami Beach Edition to their portfolio in the first quarter of the year with future Editions planned for Abu Dhabi (2015), Gurgaon, India (2015), Sanya, China (2015), Bangkok (2016) and West Hollywood (2017).
