Amateurs Riders’ Club brings Los Polistas International Women’s Polo Cup to Mumbai shores


Derby enthusiasts on Friday evening were greeted to quite a spectacle; after all, the Amateurs Riders’ Club hosted the first International Women’s Polo Cup. Team India (Sternhagen) and team USA (Caraysil) battled it out at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai for the esteemed Los Polistas International Women’s Polo Cup. For those of you who missed it and are avid admirers of the sport, the match concluded in a tie with a total score of 8 – 8.

Born and bred in 1942, the Amateurs Riders’ Club is one of the most renowned private civilian riding clubs in India. The initiative was led by ARC to promote women polo as a sport in the city.

About of glamour was added to the evening with a fashion show that followed the match. Launching her new polo wear brand, fashion designer Rhea Parekh stepped out into the limelight with Warina Hussain as the showstopper.

A plethora of prominent celebrities from different fields graced the evening; Ed Armstrong – Governor of the United States Polo Association, Alex Kuruvilla – CEO of Conde Nast, Somi Roy, Mr. Gupta – Income tax commissioner, Karishma Kotak Simone Arora, alongside Mr. Shyam Mehta, President and Mr. Nasir Jamal, Vice President of the Amateur Riders’ Club..
