One acre dog park proposed in Bandra

The proposal put forth by the Yuva Sena Chief , Aaditya Thackeray is the conversion of a six acre plot of land just off the Bandra Worli sea link at Bandra reclamation into an open space for citizens. Of these six acres, one acre would be developed into a park for pet animals where they can be exercised and taken for their daily walks and the balance five acres to be used as a football field.

Aaditya Thackeray has written to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation to fast track this project. With a major space crunch in Mumbai, parks for pets is unheard of till now. Some of the existing parks are only unofficially open to pets and their access is restricted to weekends.

The plan seems to have been well thought off with the necessary leg work done before approaching the Maharashtra Board. They plan to develop the open space through an agency or NGO and then hand t over to the MSRDC. The plot would belong to the MSRDC so there would be no question of leasing out the plot.

While the thought is a noble one and pet lovers will gladly welcome and support this idea, we need to put things in perspective and think about this plan before executing it. In a city where there is a dearth of open places even for our children to play in, can we justify using up an acre of land in a prime area for our four legged friends ?
