You have to admit that rugs play an integral role when crafting your interior palette. All it took was a walk-through of the all-new Cocoon Fine Rugs store and weaving center and a chat with Smriti and Ayush Choudhary, Founders of Cocoon Fine Rugs to realize that you just can’t underestimate the wonders that solid colours can do to the aura of your living room.
The duo recently celebrated the opening of their new flagship gallery in Jaipur over an artistic evening on Saturday co-hosted by one of the city’s finest design curator Sujata Bhandari. The evening featured artworks and installations crafted from the woolen threads that are used to make Cocoon’s exquisite rugs.
As I walked into the swish and sprawling store, I realized that it is reflective of the Founders’ vision and Rajasthani roots, amalgamated with an international aesthetic and design sensibility. The Cocoon Fine Rugs gallery in Jaipur celebrates the ethos of the state while paying tribute to hand-woven traditions that they have nurtured over the last ten years.
Given the arty interiors, just a few minutes into my experiential here I felt like I have entered a unique rug browsing experience. Space has been designed by Architect Rachna Garg of Jaipur. Think natural lighting and lavish flooring that rightly echoes the brand’s luxury aesthetic, creating a welcoming ambience. There lies a mix of traditional and new age designs. Moreover, the rugs have been strategically placed to give one true representation of how these fine rugs would look in your home.
This is the brand’s fourth rug gallery in the country, after Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. The 5000 sq ft Cocoon gallery houses the design studio, manufacturing hub, quality control and all other administrative processes for the export as well as a retail business. Centrally located and in an upscale, quiet neighborhood, the gallery is a short 10 to 15 minutes’ drive from almost anywhere in the city.
Cocoon’s various award-winning and signature collections are on display such as the best-selling Colors of Life, Chand LC, Isfahan, Superluxe, Urbane, Kasbah among others. Besides this, rugs from various designer collections are also available. These include limited-edition rugs with ace designers JJ Valaya, Ashiesh Shah, Rooshad Shroff and Varun Bahl. In addition to this, the artisans can also give you a sneak peek into the process of a hand-made rug.
A visit to the weaving centre ensured that it broadened my horizon over how much detailing goes behind crafting every rug which embodied Ayush and Smriti’s dedication towards the mastery. An experience of this and I was convinced that at Cocoon, every carpet has a story to tell and the rugs are crafted to engage you in their narrative and draw you into their warmth.
