Reviews: A dreamy dinner at Taj Mews Café

Taj Wellington Mews is often referred to as Taj group’s best-kept secret. And so when I recently had a chance to unveil it, I was more than happy to. I opted to head for dinner at the fully refurbished space and was greeted by Shabbar Madhiya, the Restaurant Manager who explained us the entire concept, took us through the signature specialities and ensured we were taken care of.

Asparagus Capucciono

I love how Mews Café exudes old world charm yet is filled with the buzzing dynamics of this commercial metropolis. It’s warm and friendly ambiance snuggles cosily into the confines of the city’s first luxury apartments. It houses the city’s first ever gourmet food store and the most rave coffee and tea-selections.
The menu is categorised into gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free and vegetarian dishes—so there is something for every kind of a diner. For me, I started off with Asparagus Cappuccino which was light, frothy and a warm hug on a cool monsoon night. The Hummus which comprised vegetable crudités and toasted flatbread was delightfully delish.

Cheese Chilly Toast

Next up were scrumptious Cheese Chilli Toasts. The cheese grilled toast mixed with chilli and crisps were the best I’ve had in a while. And this was just the tip of the gastronomic ice-berg. For the mains, while I loved the delectable Chicken Chettinad, I was also brought the Glazed Shepherd’s Pie. With its rich lamb mince with chopped vegetables, herbs and spices glazed with creamy mashed potatoes, this one had me swooning over its nuanced flavours.

Chicken Ceasar Salad

The warm, comforting downright fantastic Moong Dal Halwa was a lovely end to my meal and ensured I leave from here with the dreamiest of food comas. I noticed that discreet yet determined: the staff here achieves the tricky balance of being invisible but yet at hand when you need something.

Sunny Side Up

By the end of meal, I was loving this avatar of Mews Café. Being someone who has frequented this property, I have to say that big credits need to be attributed to the property’s General Manager, Mr Anmol Ahluwalia who infused this place with a new dynamic ever since he took it up. As I departed from this backdrop, I realized why Taj Wellington Mews has been the group’s best-kept secret. After all, beautiful things never ask for attention….
