Sabyasaachi’s retro-blinged line at Lakme Fashion Week 2015

Ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee opened the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 attended by many Bollywood celebrities. The designer, who is well known for his bridal couture, showcased a collection featuring the retro era.

Inspired power dressing era of 1970s, the 105-piece collection was replete with the designer’s distinct signature touches and an exquisite combination of forms, colours, fabrics and textures. The women were dressed in brown, grey and beige colours, featuring shimmering hemmed toga gowns, jumpsuits with sheer net capes, bell bottoms, palazzos, long maxi shirt waisters, layered capes, column dresses, boleros, gilets and a floor sweeping cape with red lining. Enhanced with fully embroidered sequins, crystals and 3D embellishments, the featured pieces were minis, shifts, sack dresses, kurtas, gowns and tunics as well as strong suits with thigh length shirt-coats in bottle green or brown. Menswear entry included black kurtas, bundis and scarves, and military bottle green and brown Jodhpuri jackets followed by brightly coloured floral printed suits, kurtas, bandgalas and brocade sherwanis.

Sabyasachi, who made his debut in 2002 with the fashion gala and is also one of the esteemed members of the Advisory Board at LFW, has pioneered the use of Indian textiles and craft tradition globally.
