Top 7 reasons the Jaguar F-Type S Convertible smashes the supercar category

We recently did a comprehensive test of the two-seater Jaguar F-Type V8S roadster model and found it to be a delightful sportscar. In fact, in the two days we had it with ourselves for review, we found enough reasons to believe that it’s the best roadster we have in India. Here are top 7 reasons why the mighty F-Type blows its competitors out of the water:

Despite the aluminum-intensive construction, the F-Type V8 S isn’t what we’d consider a lightweight two-seater sportscar. It weighs a tab bit more than 1600kg; however, the brakes on the F-Type pack enough bite to give immense confidence to the drivers. The car is loaded with an array of sensors that provide subtle and precise braking force. The F-Type V8 S model is offered with a Super High Performance system with the largest set of brake discs fitted as standard to a Jaguar production car: 15-inch (380mm) front and 14.8-inch (376mm) rear. As for the tires, they provide enough stickiness to keep the car planted on the road. Considering that most parts of our county doesn’t have great roads, during our test, we faced no problems with the tires and they provided superior ride quality.

The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission mated to the V8 is an absolute delight and ultra-sophisticated. Though it is not a dual clutch transmission but it shifts just as fast. Especially when you put the car on the dynamic driving mode, the gearshifts are phenomenally quick. And even if you are not comfortable with the manual paddle-shifters, leaving the car on the full auto mode doesn’t compromise with the car’s sportiness.

Gently push the accelerator and the response from its 5.0-liter V8 engine is fantastic. No matter which mode you are on, you will be rewarded with a superb driving experience. The F-Type urges the driver to get greedy with the throttle. The precise accelerator with predictable gain offers the driver tremendous information and control over the car. And the 50:50 weight distribution makes it incredibly fun to drive. However, if you wish to have the most out of this beast, push it hard on the twisty winding roads and the F-Type will hang its rear end out all day long; it is simply delightful.

Unlock the car and the door handles pop out inviting the driver to a cabin that is perfectly wrapped in a blend sporty and luxurious design elements. Draped in black, the interior of the F-Type looks classy and thanks to its well-engineered layout, the cabin feels airy. Given the car’s size, it has plenty of leg, head and elbow room even for taller people. The stick gearlever instead of a rotary dial and toggle switches all feel special and give the cabin of the F-Type a very driver-focused orientation. Additionally, the analog gauges add classy appeal to the cabin and go well with the overall theme. All in all, the word delectable is perfect to describe its interior.

jaguar-f-type-v8-sound3. Sound that can bring a motorhead to his knees
This brings us to another insanely awesome selling point of the Jaguar F-Type, the sound. Barring the exhaust sounds of the naturally aspirated Ferraris, the F-Type, especially the V8 variant, has to be the best sounding sportscar. The baritone rumble made by the quad pipes is therapeutic to automotive junkies like me. The loud cracks and menacingly burbles are so majestic that you’ll continue driving just to hear it. Punch the throttle hard to make the animal under the bonnet angry and you will end up setting off the car alarms in your neighborhood.

The Jaguar F-Type comes with two different engine options available is four different states of tune. We had the F-Type V8S Convertible variant with us for review. The 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol unit in the V8S model churns out 495bhp and 460 pound feet of torque channeled to the rear wheels. This gives it a mighty impressive power-to-weight ratio. Thanks to the abundance of power, even at the lower end of the rev range, the acceleration is frankly brutal and maybe even a little bit scary to begin with. Every time you put your foot on the pedal, the brute power will put a wide smile on your face.

jaguar-f-type1. Curves that can put a supermodel to shame
For all the various reasons that we absolutely love the Jaguar F-Type, the drop dead gorgeous looks of the roadster has to be its top selling point. The designers of the F-Type did a topnotch job to recreate the magic of the legendary Jaguar E-Type of the sixties, and mind you, it’s a big, big complement for a modern day sportscar. The two-seater looks perfectly in proportion from almost any angle and the gentle curves of its body makes the F-Type one of the most desirable cars in the market currently. Looking at the Jaguar F-Type from the outside gives as much pleasure as being behind the wheel of this beast of a machine. The car’s muscular stance, the sculpted air dams, the stretched headlights, the long and sleek tail lamps, the quad exhaust pipes, and just about every design aspect of the F-Type look perfect.
