Peugeot Design Lab’s piano for Pleyel renders ground-breaking acoustics

In a unique collaboration of French fine art and design, Peugeot Design Lab, along with Pleyel, have created a unique piano that not only looks futuristic but also combines some extraordinary features to make this a one-of-a-kind piano. With a body and soundboard crafted from the wood, the piano features a single gravity-defying cantilevered carbon fiber leg that makes the piano look nothing like what you would expect from one. The piano’s lid can be opened up just with one hand, and a lowered mechanism on the piano lets you see across, enabling the player to closely hear what he is playing and for the audience to see the player’s fingers.

Displayed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the piano costs a little more than $210,000.
