Our best picks from the shortlisted entries of the worlds first Instagram photo contest

If you are a passionate Instagrammer who is always snapping it up for his or her feed, here’s your chance to get rewarded for all that work! Yes, you heard us right! In an attempt to appreciate some of the best photographs on their site, the folks at Instagram have come up with a contest called the Photobox Instagram Photography Awards.

The awards launched in July this year, marking the PIPA’s first event of its kind and stature. The contest has already attracted more than 180,000 entries from across the globe, making it one of the most popular Instagram competitions to go down in history. Shortlisted photographs have been judged on a series of parameters pertaining to the ten main categories, including travel, fashion, festivals, animals & pets, sports & fitness, landscape, plants & nature, art/street art/culture, family& love and in a general category without the use of filters. Commenting on the scrutiny of the process, Cosmopolitan’s editor-in-chief and of the judges at PIPA, Farrah Storr said, “The shortlisted pictures need to be something that would make you stop when you’re scrolling through Instagram.”

Chief judge at the PIPA 2018, further commented, “From snapping our supper to capturing our canine friends, most of us like to test our everyday photography skills on Instagram…But being such a popular site, we often miss out on some of the truly stunning photography on our feeds.” Winners will be announced at an official ceremony next month, with the ‘Instagram Photograph of the Year’ receiving US$6514 as cash price.
