China has an insatiable appetite for luxury goods. Retailers are creating new imperatives to propel China back to its heyday of luxury consumption. So much that Shanghai Disney Resort (the first Disney resort in Mainland China) has unveiled its plans to setup its first luxury shopping compound ‘Shanghai Village’ adjacent to the theme park.

A brainchild of Value Retail and Shanghai Shendi Group; the 50,000 square meters retail compound will be home to International and Asian retailers as well as array of restaurants and cafes.

In another milestone, Shanghai Disney Resort will also feature first-Pirates themed land in a Disney Park. The Magic-Kingdom theme park’s six themed lands will be dedicated to characters and stories inspired by the blockbuster movie franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. ‘Treasure Cove’, will be unique to Shanghai Disneyland and include a major attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure, an all-new high-technology boat ride attraction.
