John Malone replaces Ted Turner as America’s biggest individual landowner

In the age where people want a piece of earth water and sky, the 2011 Land Report 100 says that John Malone leads the race on American soil as he has now emerged as America’s biggest individual landowner. The 70-year-old currently stakes ownership in 2.2 million acres of land, including the over 1 million acres of timberland in Maine and New Hampshire that he added to his empire earlier this year. But he doesn’t want to have it all to himself.

He reportedly was quoted saying that it is the time to buy land, as borrowing costs and prices are now low. He added that real estate “is a pretty decent hedge on the devaluation of currency.” If reports are to be believed, he is now busy looking for more property to add to his portfolio in Northeast and Canada.
