2016 Audi R8 with laser headlights is ready for a scintillating debut in Geneva

Audi has released new set of information on the highly anticipated second-generation R8 sportscar that will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It includes a teaser image of the 2016 Audi R8 along with the confirmation that it will arrive with the much touted laser headlamps as an optional extra. The teaser pic only shows a small portion of the car’s front end, which by the looks of it seems to match the spy shot that surfaced online at the beginning of the month. We can also see some protruding carbon fiber winglets beneath the lights, which were missing in the spy photo.

Coming to the more important part of the announcement, the 2016 Audi R8 packs laser headlamps to supplement its LED lamps. The optional laser high-beam offers high light intensity and excellent range, says Audi. The second-generation R8 will be equipped as standard with LED headlights (37 LEDs per headlight), with a laser high beam lighting module offered as an option. Each headlamp includes four laser diodes creating an extremely bright blue light; a phosphor converter then transforms this into a bright white light mandated by lawmakers around the world. The laser headlight system made its debut on the R8 LMX last summer, which was a limited edition model. The same technology also featured in the company’s R8 e-tron Quattro LMP1 prototype racer at Le Mans. The new Audi R8 will be one of the main attractions at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and all the details will be revealed there.
