All-Wheel Drive Jaguar F-Type R confirmed along with partnership with Bloodhound

The current Jaguar F-Type lineup is already quite big, but more variants are on the way. The all-wheel-drive F-Type is one of the worst kept secrets, and now the word is out. The 4WD Jaguar F-Type will make its world debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show that starts later this month. Jaguar has stated that the F-Type range will grow from 6 to 14 variants when the updated lineup goes on sale in 2015. That is not all; the news has been clubbed with the confirmation of Jaguar teaming up with the Bloodhound SSC Land Speed Record team. The partnership between the British marquee and Bloodhound goes beyond just sponsorship and into technical assistance.

Though the full details are yet to be revealed, but Jaguar confirmed that the AWD R Coupe will cover 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the rear-wheel drive 542bhp F-Type R Coupe) and hit a limited top speed of 186mph. This makes us believe that Jaguar is responding to rivals such as the Porsche 911 Turbo and next-generation Audi R8 due next year. As for the other new, the Bloodhound SSC is a car unlike any other as it is shaped like a wingless airplane and powered by a Typhoon jet engine plus a custom-designed rocket. It churns out the equivalent of 135,000hp and will eventually achieve speeds in excess of 1,000mph. Jaguar has been helping Bloodhound test at Hakskeen Pan in the Northern Cape of South Africa where the record attempts will start this time next year.
