Jay Kay’s purple Lamborghini Diablo from ‘Cosmic Girl’ is on sale for $717,000

This rare Lamborghini Diablo is on sale with an asking price of over half a million pounds. That’s even more than the most potent variant of the Italian carmaker’s flagship Aventador model. But there are two very good reasons for the steep asking price. This particular purple Lamborghini Diablo was once owned by Jamiroquai’s front-man Jay Kay and was the star of the band’s iconic 90s Cosmic Girl hit. The other reason that makes this car special is that it is a 1996 Lamborghini Diablo SE30 model that was built to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary.

Only 150 examples were made and special edition came with a retuned 5.7-litre V12 engine that churned out 523bhp – up from 472bhp. The rear-wheel-drive supercar was capable of doing 0-60mph sprint in less than 4 seconds and could reach a top speed of 200mph. This special edition Diablo was one of two to feature in the 1996 music video. The first was written off forcing Jay Kay to buy this model. During filming, a camera fell onto this car and smashed the windscreen leaving Jay Kay to famously drive the rest of the music video with no windshield. Given the history of this car, the asking price of £549,995 ($717,000 approximately) does sound fair.
