Ultra-Luxury, outright performance and low emissions are things that don’t mix together well in the automotive world. For years, cars trying to achieve all three ended up having a personality disorder. There is a reason why Ferrari’s never even had floor mats, leave alone other basic comfort features. But, Mercedes has managed to push their engineering beyond the boundaries achieving unbelievable feats. The German automaker, yesterday, launched its performance version of the 2014 S-Class online. The new 2014 S63 AMG will be shown off to the world at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor show.
Mercedes’ motorsport division AMG has given the S-Class luxury sedan some real grunt. It has managed to shave off 220lbs from the original newly launched 2014 S-Class. The 4.7 Litre V8 has been swapped for a more powerful twin-turbo 5.5 Litre V8 capable of churning out 577 HP and 664 lb-ft of torque. This 4Matic performance machine can do a 0-60 mph sprint under 4 seconds. The exterior styling scheme is pretty much the same as it’s tamed down twin, except for the blackened roof and sporty lightweight 19 Inch forged wheels.
Inside the cabin, plush wooden dash trims have been switched for carbon fiber inlays. The interior has a dark grey tinge to give it a sportier feel. Even the engine compartment has been given carbon fiber treatment. The carbon fiber engine cover will come with a unique plaque with the name of the craftsman who hand builds it. 2104 S63 AMG will go on sale from November onwards, but Mercedes hasn’t disclosed the pricing yet.
