The floating house ideal for community events and overnight stays was designed by brothers Steve and Nick Tidball, of the TBWA advertising agency who were briefed by Airbnb to create something that would enable visitors to see London city in a different way. The new design will not only provide stunning views of London from its famous river, but references the city’s townhouse architecture.

Despite its two-story appearance, the house is actually only one floor and is made from steel shipping containers that have been clad in wood and is built upon a floating base. It was designed keeping the “picturesque homes of Primrose Hill and Hampstead” while some influence from Pixar’s animated film Up, for a picturesque, fairy-tale look. Inside, its big beds, yellow and gray walls, textured rugs, nautical elements like a telescope, an old-fashioned compass and a wooden ship’s wheel next to the kitchen sink, give it a warm, homely ambience.

The Tidball brothers have used some genius touches to keep the floating house running without disturbing its occupants like water tanks hidden beneath ensure that guests are able to have showers, outlet pipes are routed through the dog kennel in the garden and a generator hidden in the roof to provide power.

The floating house was built to celebrate UK’s new rules that allow residents to earn a 15 per cent pay rise by sharing their homes for up to 90 days a year through sites like Airbnb. Its plans for the future are not yet known but we’re sure this new feather in Airbnb’s exceptional accommodation offering will change the way we experience London city!
