Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute celebrates 50th anniversary of the watchs first launch into space
50 years ago, on the 24th of May 1962, American astronaut Scott Carpenter sporting a Breitling Navitimer timepiece on his wrist took off to space in the Aurora 7 on a space odyssey along with astronaut Walter M. Schirra. In commemoration of the duo’s flight to space, luxury Swiss watchmaker Breitling has unveiled the Limited Edition Navitimer Cosmonaute, a timepiece sculpted to celebrate the first watch of its kind to set off on a space mission. Back in 1962, Carpenter had Breitling build a watch for himself with a 24 hour dial that helps tell time in space. The commemorative watch by Breitling also includes a 24-hour display along with a manual winding mode and was unveiled recently at a venue packed with memorabilia of the Aurora 7 space mission.
