Cartier is updating some of their classic watches in preparation for SIHH 2018. The brand is revisiting the oval dial, a shape that they celebrated in their Baignoire watch and deconstructed for the iconic Crash; these iconic watches are revisited and reimagined for the brand’s Libre collection. The five piece collection features four new takes on the Baignoire and one new version of the Crash watch.
This slender and fanciful take on the simple oval dial watch sees the watch face surrounded by detailed “petals” that are dotted with precious stones. The white gold case is set with diamonds and black spinels and only 50 such watches have been created.
This watch is set apart by the hypnotic design on the case made up of baguette-cut diamonds, white mother-of-pearl, Tahitian mother-of-pearl, and black spinels. Three rows of paved gemstones surround a tiny dial that is barely there. The Baignoire Infinie is limited to 20 pieces.
Another watch characterized by form rather than function, the Etoilée features a bracelet that is a constellation of diamonds and black spinels. This one is also guilty of a tiny dial, but the sparkly strap more than makes up for it. 15 such watches have been produced.
The classic oval has been turned on its side and covered with roman numerals in glossy black ADLC. The diamond pavé bezel is seen in glimpses. 50 pieces have been produced.
Where all the Baignoire watches feature white gold cases and quartz movements, the Crash Radieuse features a yellow gold case that contains a Manual 8970 MC movement. It features the distinctive crushed oval shape and a set of oversized Roman numerals. The Crash Radieuse is limited to 50 pieces.
