The newest member to join the league of the most expensive spirits in the world is a bottle of 50-year-old Macallan Anniversary whiskey. The whiskey was sold at McTear’s Auctioneers’ rare and collectible whisky sale in Glasgow for £11,750 ($19,700) (including the auction house’s charge of 17.5 per cent), making it the most expensive spirit of its type to be sold at an auction. The auction which sold more than 574 whiskies was considered to be the largest sale of its kind in the world. The expensive Macallan Anniversary whiskey is a combination of three casks distilled between 1926 and 1928 and was bottled in 1978. It is also accompanied with a letter of authenticity dated July 4, 1983. The winning bid was made by a private collector based in California. The acquirement of this rare spirit must have definitely left its new owner in high spirits.
