David Linley, chairman of Christie’s UK auction house as well as renowned furniture maker, celebrates 30 years of his Linley London brand this year and for the special occasion, has revealed a grand veneered triptych of an iconic London detail – the skyline. The triptych, a three paneled work of art, puts together London’s famous building in the background with the Thames in the forefront along with the London Bridge.
The piece(s) also commemorate Linley on his marquetry (the art of veneer crafting) expertise. The pictorials were made using special hand-dyed veneer inlays of grey eucalyptus, black eucalyptus, black sycamore and lastly, grey ripple sycamore to create the dramatic sky. As a 30th anniversary special, iridescent mother of pearl has also been added to make the framework come alive; mother of pearls happen to be the more traditional 30-year celebratory gift. Each of the three pieces is placed in an elegant walnut framework that adds to the contrast of the grey hues. The triptych measures 600 mm and 45 mm in width and depth and retails for a hefty £2,400 only.
